Association for Nutrition accreditation

We are very pleased to announce that the UCO's innovative new undergraduate degree in nutrition has been awarded AfN Programme Accreditation by the Association for Nutrition.

Currently recruiting for September 2022 entry, the BSc (Hons) Nutrition with Professional Practice degree is a three-year undergraduate programme which uniquely integrates evidence-based nutrition science with training and practical experience in a clinical setting. The course draws on our extensive experience training client-focused healthcare professionals and offers students the opportunity to develop their practical and professional skills within our busy working clinic.

The Association for Nutrition (AfN) is a leading professional body for nutritionists within the UK. It protects and benefits the public by defining and advancing standards of evidence-based practice across the field of nutrition and at all levels within the workforce. AfN Programme Accreditation is a quality mark awarded to degree programmes which meet the high standards required by the AfN.

Following a rigorus application process which included close scrutiny of the course programme and the UCO's overall academic standards and processes, the AfN officially granted Programme Accreditation on 16 December 2021. The accreditation is valid for 5 years.

As an Accredited Programme students can have confidence that the course will meet the high standards required to apply for Direct Entry to the AfNs UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists, the only register for nutrition professionals currently recognised by Public Health England, NHS Choices and NHS Careers. Inclusion on the register provides a number of professional benefits including improved employability as it demonstrates an ability to meet benchmarked standards, enhanced credibility with consumers and reduced commercial risk.

Charles Hunt, UCO Vice-Chancellor says:

"We believe we have a unique course offer for those seeking a career in nutrition, and can equip our students with a solid foundation in nutrition science as well as the skills to apply that knowledge in real-world scenarios. We are very pleased that the Association for Nutrition have recognised the value of the BSc (Hons) in Nutrition with Professional Practice course and our proven track record as a provider specialising in integrated professional training. We look forward to welcoming our first students in September and contributing to a profession of growing importance in preventative healthcare."

To launch the BSc (Hons) Nutrition with Professional Practice course as an AfN Accredited Programme we are offering all applicants enrolling for September 2022 a cashback amount of £1,500 upon successful completion of the first year and progression onto Year 2.

The cash back payment will be made to all students who successfully meet the academic standards required to pass the first year of the BSc (Hons) Nutrition with Professional Practice course and who register for the second year by December 2023. Students are also expected to have adhered to the UCO’s Student Terms & Conditions and other policies which can be found here. Failure to meet any of these requirements may jeopardise the cashback offer and payment will not be made during any ongoing investigation into student conduct.

The BSc (Hons) in Nutrition with Professional Practice course is Accredited Programme No. AC326.
