Title: Connective tissue - anatomy and pathology through dissection
Date: 11 June 2020
Course leader: Dr David Parry
About the course
The UCO have once again teamed up with world-renowned expert, Dr David Parry to deliver a unique course specialising in anatomy and pathology. You will have the rare opportunity to learn in the King’s College Dissecting Room and visit the prestigious Gordon Museum of Pathology.
You shall be given a morning lecture that addresses the structure and function of connective tissue, from the chemical to macroscopic structure. During the lecture we shall look at how connective tissue works in the body in its various forms. We shall also consider some pathological conditions where connective tissue is the basis for the conditions in question.
After lunch you shall spend around two hours in a dissecting room, looking at cadaveric material pertinent to connective tissue. You shall inspect and discuss joints, the skeleton and be able to consider other forms of connective tissue, perhaps not widely considered in Osteopathy.
After a short break, you shall visit the world famous Gordon Museum. Here you will be guided through real pathological pots with case histories and get a chance to view and discuss these pathologies. You shall be shown a “beginners guide” to describing pathology.
Osteopathic practice standards (updated) and other CPD elements covered
B) Knowledge, skills and performance B1
The aim and objective of this course is simple, but provenly effective: Allow you exposure to three different learning landscapes, being exposed to the subjects of the structure, function and pathology of connective tissue. You shall be expertly guided in a non-didactic fashion, in learning environments that allow every individual the scope to ask questions and fill the gaps in their own knowledge.
