What is clearing?
Clearing is part of the UCAS application process. It allows applicants who are still looking for a university place to find courses which still have places available.
When does clearing begin and end?
Clearing runs from July to October. If you’re waiting for A-level results, you can start using Clearing once you get your results on 18 August 2022. If you already have your grades, you can start using Clearing from 5 July.
Who is clearing for?
You can use Clearing if you:
- didn’t receive any offers.
- declined your offers.
- didn’t get the grades you needed for a conditional offer.
- got the grades you needed but have changed your mind about where you want to study.
- haven’t made any applications.
How do I apply through clearing?
To apply for Clearing follow these steps.
Do I have to wait for my results before I contact universities?
No. You cannot apply through Clearing until you get your results but it is recommended that you research your options in advance. You can contact us with any questions or come in for a tour before you get your results to give you time to think through your options.
Do I need to apply through clearing for your part-time M.Ost?
No. Only applicants for the full-time M.Ost and BSc (Hons) Nutrition with Professional Practice courses must apply through UCAS Clearing. If you wish to apply for the part-time M.Ost course your application will be processed by the UCO directly. Call us on 020 7089 5316 for more information.
What if I've already accepted a firm offer and changed my mind?
If you are already holding a firm offer you can decline your offer to release yourself into clearing.
How much does applying through Clearing cost?
If you have applied already and opted to pay the multiple course fee of £26.50 you will not have to pay to apply through Clearing. If you have applied already but only opted to pay the single course fee of £22 you will need to pay an additional £4.50 to take part in Clearing. If you have yet to apply for a course for 2022 entry you will have to pay the full fee of £26.50.
Will Clearing affect my student loan?
If you've already applied for funding but are changing your course, you need to update your details ASAP.
If you haven’t applied for finance yet, you will need to do it straightaway to ensure you receive your first loan in time for September 2022 entry. There is a small possibility you may not get your loan in time. More information can be found on the Student Finance England website.
